Wilson in Washington D.C.

Our brilliant and creative religion teacher made a flat "pritchard" for the 8th graders to escort her through DC. Since we were not invited to go, I too wanted to take a virtual tour with the 8th graders. Mrs. Grant made a flat "Wilson" for me. Here are some pictures of me in DC.

Thank you Sammy for making sure I made it safely!

Math properties song

Unfortunately, I was not able to post a video of you guys singing the math properties song from class. Video was too long. I am making an executive decision and telling you guys that 4th period performed the best! I am posting the video we watched during class here. Please remember the tune is catchy but the information for one property is incorrect....which property is it??

Honoring 9/11

Our lives changed on that fateful day 10 years ago today. To honor all lives lost every NFL game rolled out an American flag that covered the entire football field. If the dimensions of the flag were 100 yards by 53 1/3 yards how many square feet of material was needed to make the flag? If the fabric cost $1.78/yard how much did one flag cost?

Lots of fun with a new concept

I had a great time with all my classes today. I love it when the "lightbulb" goes off in students' heads. We had a major shift in our thinking today when working with integers and making it "simple". They all did a great job. Enjoy some pictures from class today. I'm so proud of all of you.

The sequence answer...and more!

The sequence I posted on the board Friday was a special sequence called the Fibonacci Sequence. Here is a clip and how it relates in nature:

On another personal and math related note: I enjoy running. I'm not fast by any means, but I think it is a good outlet to let out energy and relieve stress. I have a personal goal of running a 10K in under an hour. A 10K is 6.21 miles. Yesterday I ran 6.204 miles in exactly 60 minutes. Did I or did I not make my goal? Why or why not?

Welcome Back!

I hope you all had a wonderful summer. While I am sad to see it come to an end, I am excited about getting to know each of you. Check back frequently at my blog to see how math is used in everyday life and for updates. This summer I had a wonderful opportunity to conduct an experiment in zero gravity with 4 other wonderful All Saints' teachers. Here are a few pictures of my adventure.
